Painting Sister Coyotes in the Studio
Little Sister Coyote
Ink, Gesso, Charcoal, Crayon, Conte, Oil Pastel on Canvas
I've been painting coyotes for ten years, and this is the first year that female coyotes appear in a large format, colorful vs a black, white, grey scale; and morph organically with their environment. They came through me this way, not planned, but intuitive. I did create sketches of the poses first to work from by looking at photos of an oil painting that I developed from actual drawings of coyotes that I drew at the zoo. Below is that painting, "Coyote Jake," commissioned for a man who experiences coyotes in the desert of Nevada.
