I am a Sacramento Artist who benefited from the Fred Ball Memorial Fund for "Artists in Crisis." In 2007, the 2 Artists Calendar Fundraiser Collaboration Project began with fellow artist, Stefani Thomas. We met at UC Davis in the Art Studio undergraduate program in the 90's. Our intent: to give back to the community through the sales of calendars with the images we created, and to educate others of this unique grant for Sacramento Regional artists in need. We're thrilled that our goals have come to fruition. We raised $1,100 in calendar sales alone to contribute to the Artists in Crisis Fund. We gave a tuition scholarship to a teen trombonist to attend Sugarloaf Fine Arts Camp in the Sierra Mountains. Also, awarded 4 supply stipends to teens from the Joan Mitchell Foundation in New York that attended the 2010 Oxbow Art School Summer Art Camp in Napa, CA. I have taught art at both camps and know first hand the positive impact the arts and camp life have on everyone involved. In addition to the sales of calendars, we also received donations to cover the cost of printing. Now that the project is complete, the calendar images are used by teachers as examples in portrait drawing. A few remain in stock; if you'd like to receive one to assist in a project-send an email. Many thanks to all of our supporters!
Cheers to a successful collaborative project!
The original artwork was exhibited in solo shows at Tangent Gallery in Sacramento, Pacific West Graphics in Redding, and Mama Llamas, Weaverville, California. Six of the portraits were exhibited in "Creative Collaborations" at Altered Esthetics Gallery in Minneapolis, Minnesota, while the other six portraits were shown at the Sacramento Metropolitan Utilities District Gallery in a Portrait Exhibit, "About Face." Additionally, three portraits are published in a catalog, Portrait of the Artist by Dale Copeland-Puniho Press, New Zealand and in an online exhibit at www.outofsight.co.nz/Portrait

Each self portrait was created by both artists, 1/2 Stefani, 1/2 myself. I would begin one; mail it to Stefani to complete with her self portrait. She would begin the next, mail it to me and so on. Each portrait combines different media and orientations for the challenge and excitement, and echoes the time of year. We created each 1/2 in one sitting so that it retained the spontaneity of the moment. Cherie Hacker & Stefani Thomas
For the calendar, we created borders to accompany each image. Stefani drew 6 and I drew 6. I put it all together in Photoshop, the calendar looks just like the artwork!
Calendars are a GREAT TEACHING TOOL for teachers!
Calendar images are 7" high by 8 1/2 " wide when hung on the wall = 14"h x 8 1/2"w
